The South Florida Ballet Theater is a non for profit Hollywood, Florida based organization dedicated to bringing classical ballet performances to the South Florida communities since 2002. In pursuit of its education and performance missions, and through its affiliated Apprentice Ballet School, it targets low income, at risk, and homeless children who are often referred by social service agencies.
The benefits to the students of the Ballet School are enormous. The children learn personal responsibility, social skills, etiquette, music history, skills in achieving short and long term goals and enjoy the unique opportunity of sharing the stage with professional ballet artists. These benefits have been proven to translate to their personal lives, particularly their school performance.
The Ballet Company’s ability to continue to fulfill its mission with the children of the Ballet School is now compromised due to the recent funding cutbacks on both the country and city levels. We can no longer continue to provide the scholarships and subsidies that many of the financially challenged challenged children have come to depend on to continue their attendance. However, abandonment of these children is not an option that we are willing to consider.
